The surgeons at the Laird Surgical Associates are highly-trained in many different types of surgery, offering quality care and a variety of surgical solutions. Our surgeons are skilled in traditional surgical procedures and in minimally-invasive procedures like laparoscopic surgery and robotic surgery. Our goal is to provide patients with confidence and comfort in the care they're receiving.

Cristen Laird, DO, FACS
Dr. Cristen Laird grew up in Northern California, and was a dedicated precision ice skater from ages 5 to 20. She stayed close to home, and earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of California, Davis. She briefly worked as a pharmacy technician, then continued her education at Touro University California in Vallejo. She completed a residency in General Surgery at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, where she met Dr. Raymond Laird. They married during their third year of residency. After residency, she stayed in the Downriver community and started her General Surgery practice in Trenton at Oakwood Southshore Medical Center (currently Corewell Health Trenton). Dr. Laird has continued her surgical education, and earned certification as a robotic surgeon using the daVinci Surgical System in June 2018. She previously cared for traumatically injured patients for several years at Trenton, and in the spring of 2022 was elected as Chief of Surgery. When not working, she spends time with her daughters and enjoys gardening and crafts.

Raymond Laird, DO, FACOS, FACS
Dr. Raymond Laird was born and raised in southeast Missouri in a rural farming community, helping his dad harvest cotton as a small child. He moved to Columbia, Missouri for college, earning his Bachelor's degree. After working for several years as a respiratory therapist, he continued his medical education in Florida at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine Bradenton. He completed a residency in General Surgery at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, where he met Dr. Cristen Laird. They married during their third year of residency. Dr. Laird then received fellowship training at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C. under the direction of Dr. Fredrick Brody and Dr. Vincent Obias. His training was in advanced minimally invasive surgery, with a primary focus in complex hiatal hernia repairs and colon resections. After completing fellowship training, he moved back to the Downriver community and began his General Surgery practice within the Oakwood Healthcare System (currently Corewell Health). He has continued to advance his skills in complex open, laparoscopic, and robotic hernia repairs. He previously cared for traumatically injured patients at Trenton.
In addition to his surgical practice, he is the General Surgery Residency Assistant Program Director, was elected Vice Chief for the Department of Surgery at Corewell Trenton in 2019, and is the Corewell Trenton Surgeon Champion for the Michigan Surgical Quality Collaborative. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his daughters and doing gardening, woodworking, and grilling.
